Hmmmm… I am so feeling the sweet summer vibes at the moment, it does help that it is a warm 20+ degrees late in the evening currently.
And I must say I am thoroughly enjoying video clips that are going with songs these days. I really haven’t been one to watch those music video shows – don’t really have the time to sit and watch so I will turn it on and do things around the house while I listen to music videos. But since writing the mix tapes for you – I am really enjoying experiencing and then sharing with you the beauty that can be the music video. (We can talk about Kanye and Kim’s latest debacle later.)
For now – here is some more tasty tunes from our home shores.
Big Scary’s latest single “Twin Rivers” is delightful.
It really roles over you – and is keeping with what we know and love from this Melbourne duo. The video clip is really sweet, following a day in the life of a praying mantis called Florence. Read into this what you will.
The Twin Rivers EP was released earlier this month – check out the four new singles with a couple of cool remixes thrown in as well.
I love the story behind the next track – “Real Slow” from Australian but now LA based, Miami Horror ft. Sarah Chernoff. Supposedly Ben and Aaron, from the band, are not big fans of songs about love – but it seems in experiencing a little bit of love in their lives of late, and finding that someone to take things slow and be comfortable in doing so – their tune has changed.
Here is their expression of this loved up situation. This one is recommended to listen to whilst driving – definitely with the windows down.
Now this next single is my favorite at the moment, and paired with the clip – it is an absolute gem.
And the polar opposite from the previous single. “Riptide” was the first break-through single from Vance Joy and now his new track is taking us down the bitter road of heartbreak.
I COMPLETELY relate to this video clip – I have had many a situation where I am driving, music turned up loud and me balling my eyes out from the latest soul-destroying, I will never get over it, heartbreak I have experienced. It’s nice to know I am not the only one… :)
OK, let’s get a little sexy for a minute…
It has been 4 years since his last release, “Get Out While You Can”, and this week, Dan Sultan gave us a taste of his next album due for release early 2014.
This single “Under your Skin” is a dark but hot love song – for the clip he has teamed up with contemporary Indigenous Australian dance company Bangarra Dance Theatre and teases us with those brooding eyes and a steamy bath scene at the end. Enjoy!
This last one I was going to mention in my first mix tape – but I delayed and now EVERYONE is on the Meg Mac bandwagon. Good! Because she is fabulous!
This beauty from Melbourne has a powerful voice and has just won a competition to play at Falls Festival in Lorne – but if you didn’t manage to get tickets to that MASSIVE New Years event – you can check her out this Friday supporting (Yes! Supporting! So you can only IMAGINE what the headliner is going to sound like!) Georgia Fair at Howler this Friday.
Check out her latest single “Every Lie”.
Get out there amongst people – check out some live music, kick back in the sun (if it hangs around long enough) and share it with those you love – it’s the only way. Till next week.
