Soccer fans – or lets better say football fans as real World Cup enthusiastics call themself – around the globe are counting down the days for the start of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
For all of you who are not that lucky to watch (some of) the games live in Brazil, we thought it might be handy to get an overview of places and venues in Melbourne to watch the games live.
Update: This was originally ment to be a top 5 list but due to popular demand we’ve added additional locations. You just can’t have enough options when it comes to find your perfect location to watch the games, can you!. So here we go:
The Imperial Hotel
No surprise here, the all time favourite Imperial Hotel in Bourke Street, will show ALL World Cup games live on its screens. Yes, that’s right, all the games. So if you make the effort of getting up in the wee morning hours, you’ll surly be surrounded by other football fans. Just don’t forget to change from your PJs’ to something decent, will you.

Experience the World Cup live on a big cinema screen with popcorn and ice cream. With tickets starting from $10 they don’t show all the games but will definitely have a lot of them on the screen.
Catch all the Socceroo’s games and the FIFA World Cup Final LIVE with family and friends in comfort featuring surround sound and of course a MASSIVE SCREEN! It’s also a good chance to support your local cinema.
They will show some of the games but are not licensed to show all of them. If you want to watch it at Turf you should check with them upfront to avoid disappointment.
The Duke will be showing all Socceroos group matches live, plus the finals.
They will show every Socceroos group match, plus all the finals, live and loud on big screens throughout the venue at the Hawthorn Hotel.

Limerick Arms Hotel
Head to the Limerick to watch all Socceroos and England group matches, plus the finals.
The Local Hotel
Allez les Bleus! The Local is your home ground for all of France’s group matches, plus Socceroos group matches and every finals game.
Vamos España! The Provincial is turning Spanish! Watch every one of Spain’s matches live, plus Socceroos group matches and all the finals.
World Restaurant & Bar
Showing games on their big screen pretty much every single day of the championships, from 7am in the morning for the early games to late at night. If you want to get a good spot in front of the screen they do accept table bookings. Located on the Southbank Promenade they’re the perfect place to catch an early morning game before heading to the office…
Other places to watch the World Cup 2014…
There will be a public viewing at Birrarung Marr but they won’t be playing non-socceroos matches. Plus be aware that alcohol will be prohibited as it is a public space.
SBS and SBS2 have broadcasting rights to show ALL the games live. So, you better stock up on coffee to survive 4 weeks of crazy early morning soccer madness. Have fun!
