As we recover from a HUGE Melbourne Cup ‘long’ weekend (for those of you smart enough to take the Monday off as well) I am going to introduce you to some smooth warm beats that make you feel good and are also nice and gentle, being very aware there may be some sore heads today.
Enjoy this VERY homegrown mix tape!
Eskimo Joe are just about to release their 6th studio album and the beautiful story behind this album is that is was crowd-funded. (YAY for supporting local music – well done people!)
These boys recently ditched their label and went independent – making producing music all that more expensive. So handed their collection plate around and raised over $60,000 – making it the most successful crowd funding for and Australian music artist to date.
Check out the first single off the album: ‘Got What You Need’
From the west coast of Australia we now head up north to Brisbane with Mr Jeremy Neale.
This man clearly is influenced by the music of the 50’s and 60’s and is my tip for the live music you need to see this week. You can check out Jeremy this Saturday night at the Northcote Social Club showing off his ‘In Stranger Times‘ EP.
I have a feeling he will woo the pants off you.
For the next single, we are going to bring it back to Melbourne – Kate Martin, originally from Townsville, this beautiful songstress now calls Melbourne home.
She is an extremely well accomplished 22 year old, having released two full length albums and has toured with Josh Pyke, The Waifs, Emma Louise just to name a few. This is the latest single off her upcoming album (due for release early 2014) and before she hits the road this November.
Let’s finish this weeks mix tape off with a man I have had a soft spot for since he first made love to my ears back in 1999 with his debut release – Black The Sun. (NB. There was a short period where I banned him from my stereo when I found out he fell in love and married a girl he saw in the audience at one of his gigs, and I just couldn’t understand why it wasn’t me). Alex Lloyd has just released his 6th album and I have to say what I have heard so far has taken me back to the music I first fell in love with from him. Check out the first single ‘Better The Less You Know’… DANG!
If you like what you hear and want more – you can check out Alex’s first tour with full band in 5 years this November/December.
Until next week – get out there, enjoy some live music and take a friend. Live music is so much better when you share it with those you love!
