The Galleon Café in St Kilda is somewhat of an institution. I can’t think of a time where this little gem hadn’t been around.
Synonymous with the St Kilda of old times, the time has worn the Galleon a bit down over the years. I’d say the phrase “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” describes it at best. The result though is an interior that possesses an authentic feel of yesteryear, something that many other cafés in the northern suburbs desperately try to create.
There’s a reason why “is busy”, is on the first place of the short description. Because this place is fairly busy. Even during the week. If you come on the weekend it gets even a little more crazy and you might expect a bit of a waiting time, both for a table and later for your food being served. But hey, it’s the weekend. Enjoy one of their great lattes or delicious milk shakes and relax a little.
The menu is diverse and includes items such as a classic burger, scrambled tofu, pancakes and hot muffins, all of which are available throughout the day. Vegetarians and vegans will be happy the available breakfast options.
This place is St Kilda to me.
Laid back with a bit of an alternative and creative vibe to it and if the Melbourne weather is in a good mood, you can sit outside and watch the daily of this wonderful local community, mixed with backpackers and tourists.
