The beauty of Melbourne for me are all the little gems that you find tucked away down an alleyway, behind a building, or sometimes hiding in plain sight. This is one of them. Just a few meters off bustling Bourke street, Neapoli offers a quiet place for some fresh food, crisp wine and long talks with friends.
First off: it’s a wine bar so you’ll simply have to try the wine. Deal? There’s plenty to choose from, regardless if you’re like me and want dry and crisp (check!), sweet (check!) or full-bodied (check!). Well, you get the picture. Just get yourself some delicious wine to start with.
Next up – food. And yes, this picture is of a dessert. Because every single time I’ve been here (and there have been plenty times) I have never managed to snap a single food picture. My working theory is that the food is simply too good so I lose all thoughts of any camera and simply dive right in. Because the food is that good. I would describe it as Italian tapas; smaller portions of mediterranean dishes, from filled peppers (watch out for the spicy ones!) to fresh salads, soft crab or the best buffalo mozzarella dish I’ve had in a long time. And I do like my mozzarella, that’s a fact.
Don’t forget to leave space for some dessert as well. The Klaus and Fritz favourite is depicted above – the banana and date soufflé served with fior di latte gelato. Simply divine!
