The combination outdoors + cinema is magic. I know I use the word often, but in this case, it’s really called for. Coming from an awfully cold country like Sweden, this isn’t something that really exists, which makes me even more giddy in almost a childlike fashion.
For four Thursdays, starting today, there’ll be a series of free (!) outdoor movies held on the lawn at Point park on the banks of the Yarra River. You had me at free, but it gets on better. Wondering how to get there? Well the first 120 guests showing up at the Riverside Berth at Federation Square at 6.30pm will get a free return ferry service. What better way to start a movie night than by taking the ferry, I say?
Once you get there there are 100 bean bags up for grabs. There’s more, but you’ll have to rent them. People are encouraged to bring their own picnics, or if you’re lazy (like me), take advantage of pre-movie dinner specials from the local Yarra’s Edge restaurants. And, as it is a movie, you can count on coffee and snacks being available for purchase on the night.
Throughout the night (and the series) there will be a gold coin collection, where the proceeds goes to Kids Under Cover, an organisation working towards preventing youth homelessness.
