Little Captain

Nestled among the quiet parts of Inkerman street, on the border between St Kilda East and Balaclava, lies a little treasure chest known as Little Captain. We headed here for some late breakfast/early lunch on a sunny weekday. We parked the car across the street and the first thing that hit me was the cuteness. Come on, you see it too right? Super quaint with all that white and red stripiness going on.

Inside was equally cute. We stopped briefly at the counter to check out the ready-made sandwiches before we headed out to the backyard with a couple of menus in our hands.

Before we talk food, let’s talk menus. Sure, you might argue that they’re not the easiest to read, but you know what? I don’t care. I wanna know whoever wrote these, because that person’s handwriting is awesome. It took us quite some time to decide on what to eat – there was simply too much tasty stuff to choose from.

We ended up ordering some coffee + chai (creamy and good), breakfasty corn fritters with avo and relish (without bacon, added mushrooms) and a lunchy chicken bagel sandwich. I barely had time to snap these pictures before the food was devoured. Fast. Sure, we were hungry, but it was also good. Satiating, without that heavy feeling in your stomach + delicious taste. Could you really ask for more? Well maybe, it wouldn’t hurt if it was cheap as well, but hey, do you know what? It is cheap. Dang!

I love the backyard of this place. It’s a little run down, but in a lovely way, which makes it feel more relaxed. I could possibly sit there forever, just look over the park and eat my way through all the menu. My only issue with this place is that it’s not next door to my house. Just sayin.
