Did someone say Christmas markets?

It’s the first of December and you know what that means? We’re getting closer to christmas! I have spent the day putting up our christmas tree, getting the traditional swedish advent candlestick out and baking somewhat traditional saffron buns (pro tip to all you swedes out there: add in some white chocolate and skip the raisins).

Coming from a part of the world where the christmas time is dark and snowy (something that isn’t at all like the fabulous weather Melbourne has offered today), I need something a bit extra to get me into the proper christmas spirits. Enter the christmas markets. Today we’re sharing three christmas markets that will happen in the next week.

ScandinavianChristmasBazaar

Scandinavian Christmas Bazaar
First out is my personal favourite (me? Biased? Never!) – the Scandinavian Christmas Bazaar. This market is a must for all us Scandies and a place to stock up on not just christmas things, but certain things you simply can’t get in a regular store. Like your favourite candy.

Anyway. It’s a big bazaar. About ten thousand visitors are expected, and you’ll have plenty stalls to roam. Have a look see at Scandinavian design in the stalls or take a break on the lawn while enjoying a Scandinavian delicacy. I suggest having a norwegian waffle. So good!

Christmas is a family event, and so is this market. There’s farm animals to pet as well as face painting and a bouncing castle for the kids.

German Christmas Market
Yeah, we’re staying close to our roots in this post. We’ve got one Scandinavian market down already, we need a German one! We’ve actually already been to one German christmas market this year (photo above of us at that market) and that was all kinds of wonderful so we’re really looking forward to this one.

Head on down here this Thursday to enjoy some delicious and German delikatessen and possibly pick up a christmas gift or two.

French Christmas Market
There’s like there’s one market for every country out there. Good for us though, because the more the merrier, right? We haven’t been to this one yet, but are kind of stoked to try this one out. In my experience, Alliance Francaise really knows how to pull events off. This market promises not just french food and wares on offer. It’s their 10 year anniversary and with that they’re introducing new activities, such as street theatre and children’s activities. If you’re interested in learning french there’s also plenty free trial classes during the weekend. Have a look at their site for the full program.
