I saw someone posting a brekkie shot from Coin Laundry on Instagram and let me tell you I was instantly hooked.
The food looked delicious and very well presented on the plates and so did all the food pictures people took from the Coin Laundry and posted them on Instagram.
Naturally I went to Yelp to find out more about this place and was stunned, that despite the mouth-watering look of the dishes this place only got average recommendations since the place is under new management.
This was definitely a case to investigate and so I did!
So on the day of the AFL finals I made my way to Armadale as I assumed everyone else but me is watching footy. (Call me an ignorant expat but I’m German and a three hour AFL game, just doesn’t spark my spirits. Not even when there is alcohol involved)
Despite the finals, this place was BUSY. It seems I’m not the only Melburnian not interested in footy.
I’ve waited approximately 15 min to be seated which gave me time to check out the place a bit further.
The interior design reminded me a bit of Stina’s living room and kitchen – everything had a bit of a vintage, very organised and swedish design touch, which I actually like a lot and it makes me want to move in immediately.
We finally were seated and being a Libra I had hard times to choose my brekkie option of the day. There was so much on the menu (even for a vegetarian like me) and all the food I saw on other people’s tables looked incredibly good. So what to get, what to get? Ahhhhh!
We’ve ordered a pulled pork sandwich with marinated apple sauce (or something like that) and a french omelette on brioche.
All a bit pricey, considering that this place is located in Armadale but when the waiter brought our food it looked and smelled DELICIOUS! So the Instagram pictures actually were real and the food lives up to it’s photographic reputation.
Taste wise both dishes were perfectly seasoned, they used fresh ingredients (that they source locally)for it and the taste was just yummy. I had an orange juice accompanying my food and let me tell you, this o-jay was the best I’ve ever had. I could have had 5 of them.
So what’s my verdict…
Well, the place is groovy, with a very nice atmosphere. The food makes definitely for good Instagram fodder and telling from the non-existing looks I didn’t get, I assume locals and waiting stuff are just used to food shot taking weirdos like me.
The food was very good but honestly a tad to pricey fo my liking, considering it was a 20 minute drive for me to get there in the first place.
So would I come back, you might ask and will I take my friends to this place? The answer is yes! I like the atmosphere and lets face it, I don’t need a big brekkie all the time. I need to get on a diet anyways as the summer is approaching. I’ll just have a danish and some delicious o-jay then.
