In what used to be a quiet arcade between Bourke and Collins Streets, there’s a new kid on the block. Fitted out with cassette tapes on the walls (so THAT’S what they’re for!) and a sweet selection of hip-hop tunes over the stereo, Boombap is causing a bit of a buzz. It’s the same crew that brought you funk-themed The Basement, and Jazz-themed Satchmo’s Den, so you know they know a thing or two about music! But it’s not just the sweet tunes that’ll bring you out of your morning lull – Boombap brews a mean cup of Coffee Supreme coffee (that’s the South blend, for the cafficionados out there), served with a smile.
If you’re feeling a bit peckish, Tiffany (ex Charlie Dumpling, Hellenic Republic) has you covered with something for your tastebuds. For the morning crowd, there’s a good selection of hand-held brekky baps (one handed or two), tasty smoothies, and other delicious options. The lunch menu is a frequently-updated smorgasbord with a veritable American comfort food swagger, but there are a few key items that are there to stay, including the New York-style Pastrami, and the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Slaw roll. The menu is designed for the nine-to-fiver takeaway crowd (albeit substantially tastier than average), but if you find yourself with a bit of time, you won’t go wrong sitting at the bar and listening to the hip hop beats.
